Enjoy reading a thrilling mystery, a love story, and historical fiction, all bound up in one book: The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon. The story takes place in the 1950s in Barcelona, Spain, where the son of a bookstore owner discovers a lost novel, written by a writer whose death is shrouded in mystery. Throughout the month of May, all branches of the Alexandria Library will host numerous events based upon the themes in the book. |

WARWICK VILLAGE EARTH DAY SPRING CLEAN-UP SATURDAY, 23 APRIL 2011, 10:00 AM followed by volunteer social & egg hunt 1pm at the poolhouse Calling all willing and able Warwick Village Residents! We need your help! Spread the word! Clean up your median and our Parks! If you’ve been walking around the neighborhood lately you’ve seen lots of litter on the streets and medians, and maybe even in our parks. If we all pitch in, we can clean up the bits of broken glass, plastic, paper, metal and wood on our streets, and maybe even scoop out the leaves and sticks from the drains. What do you have to do? Start spreading the word to other Warwick Village residents. Then, on Saturday, 23 April around 10am, meet up with your neighbors, don some gloves (if you want), grab a trash bag (paper or plastic, your preference) and work together to clean up your street for an hour or two. What you pick up will need to be put into your personal trash bins or just put out with your trash the following Wednesday. |

ALEXANDRIA SPRING CLEAN UP SATURDAY, 2 APRIL 2011 cuRBSIDE PICK-UP OF UNWANTED ITEMS If you didn’t notice the large green and white postcard recently sent to residents from the City, here is the run down for this year’s Alexandria Spring Clean Up. The Alexandria Spring Clean Up is a great service provided by the City to its residents. And, it is a great time to clean out the attic, basement or shed, or even your whole house! Donate what you can, then put the rest on the curb without having to make a special call or drop off items. Also note that (informally) many charities and organizations drive around the Village on the Friday eve, before the curbside pick-up, salvaging items put out. |
