Preventing Mosquitoes and West Nile Virus
Residents are reminded to help prevent mosquito breeding and West Nile Virus by turning over containers that hold standing water including recycling and trash containers. The Department of Health recommends that any container holding water, which could include a curbside trash and recycling container, should be turned over at least once a week. For most residents, curbside trash and recycling containers are set out for collection weekly, thus not creating a breeding ground for mosquitoes. However, if you are leaving town for a couple of weeks, make sure your recycling container is left upside down or in a dry area to prevent standing water accumulation.
