FIRST THURSDAY ON THE AVENUE

The first First Thursday on the Avenue in Del Ray will be held this Thursday, May 6 from 6 to 9 pm along Mt. Vernon Avenue.  The theme is “Kids Creating Community”.  The Del Ray School of Music’s School of Rock will play at the Farmers Market parking lot from 6-7 and the GW Middle School Orchestra will play 7-8 pm. 

There will be lots of things for kids — flag folding demonstration, hula hoop contest, mural painting, chalk drawing and much more.  Maury Elementary School has made a flag (9 feet by 17 feet) that will be hung on Forum One’s building at 2200 Mt. Vernon Avenue.  The Alexandria Fire Department will be out with one of their fire trucks along with other city agencies.

Community Partners for Children; the designated nonprofit for this year, will be collecting diapers to give to mothers that are in need.

So bring diapers and come over to Del Ray Thursday night!

ALEXANDRIA COUNTRY DAY SCHOOL

ALEXANDRIA COUNTRY DAY SCHOOL, 2400 Russell Road.  This Week at Alexandria Country Day School:  The 5/6^th grade class will be performing, “Fractured Fairytales Paloosa” on Thursday, May 6 at 10:30am. All are invited to attend. A parent performance will be held the evening before at 7:00pm.We wish the student’s a theatrical success!  Thursday evening, May 6^th we will be hosting our first ever Graduate Panel at 7:00pm.  We have 8 ACDS alum representing boarding, public, parochial, and other independent schools and answering parent/student questions about the process/experience.  Next week the 8^th grade class travels to Puerto Rico and puts all that Spanish language learning into practice!  Stay tuned to hear all about their journey.  Happy Mother’s Day!

The new season for Cinema Del Ray starts Saturday, May 15 with “Toy Story” starting at dusk (around 7 pm) at the Mount Vernon Recreation Center soccer fields.
